Four league wins and a defeat for the Ts in Week 15

It was a day of drama for the Twickenham sides. The 2s, 3s and 4s all won on the field, the 5s won by virtue of a concession whilst the poor old 1s looked for the world like they were going to win only to have victory snatched out of their clutches at the end.

Luck continues to desert the ones
The ones really will be wondering what they have to do to win a game. Carlos Nunes (79 off 100 balls) led the way with the bat as the ones put 217 on the board in a game reduced to 45 overs per side.

Stanmore started their reply steadily before Don Manuwelge took the most amazing catch you’ll ever see (and you can indeed see it here). That saw the back of the dangerman, Steve Reingold, with the score on 36.

The Ts then reduced Stanmore to 96-6, John Fisher (3-47) coming very much to the fore. But, an impressive 61 (57 balls) from Dylan Rawal and then 48no (52 balls) from Will Lovell saw the hosts home with a little spare.

Twos in the promotion hunt
Whilst the ones league position looks pretty desolate, the twos remain very much in the middle of a promotion hunt (see here). They beat Harrow St Mary’s in Week 15.

For the first time in many a year there were two centurions in a Twickenham side. Eugene Berger (113 off 116 balls) and Cameron Fraser (111 off 124) put the Ts very much in the box seat as they piled on 245. Vedant Palekar (just the 26 conceded off 9) was the star bowler for the visitors.

Niraah Shah (59 off 66) set HSM off at a decent rate, but ultimately the Ts bowling attack chipped away at the HSM batting line up and got home with 33 runs to spare. Eugene Berger chipped in with a couple of wickets, as did both Nakul Vishvanath and Dom Thamby.

Solid stuff all round.

Young guns see Threes home
The threes still have a long way to go if they want to ensure survival in Division Two of the third tier, but they did themselves a power of good in defeating Wembley on Saturday.

Mohammed Jaji scored 32 for Wembley, but only one other person reached double figures as they slumped to 125 all out. Skipper Robbie Bosier (4-31) and Mark Smith (4-34) did the lion’s share of the bowling work there.

Jonty Hunt (29 off 60) set the Ts’ chase up nicely, but it was two of the club’s impressive set of young guns who saw the ship home. Alfie Gales (32no off 69) and keeper-batter Sean Daly (28no off 60) got the job done with a minimum of fuss.

The threes still have plenty of work to do if they want to stay up, but they are now at least off the bottom (see here) and in the winning groove.

Niazi and Dassani keep their nerve
With the fives enjoying a walkover win – a triumph that lifts them to the heady heights of second – the final team in league action was the fours.

Much like the threes, they were in ‘must win’ territory. And win they did indeed do. Although my goodness it was a close run thing.

Old Isleworthians batted first and could only put 96 on the board. Imran Niazi (4-24 off 12) led the way admirably with the ball, although Sven Steyn (2-20) and gaffer Hinay Dassani (3-15 off 9) also played their respective parts.

Small totals can often be tricky to chase and for a fair old while it looked like the Ts were going to make a right hash of things. But, that man Niazi was not going to be denied. He came in at nine and remained rock-solid right to the end. Niazi added a cool-as-you-like 30no, putting on 19 with Martin Fairn, 15 with Thomas Hopkins and then finally 15 more with number 11 Hinay Dassani to see the Ts home.

It was a real knickergripper of a finish but the result sees Twickenham out of the relegation zone for the first time in three months (see here). Excellent work, folks.
