Brilliant batting sees Ts home
The TCC women came out on top by six wickets in their most recent SWCL encounter (see here for the card).
Streatham & Marlborough were the visitors to Broom Road on 14 July. Neither the Ts nor their opponents had set the league on fire in 2024, so Sunday was an opportunity for both sides to get some much-needed points on the board.
Sahoo to the fore with the ball
The visitors had first hit and piled up an impressive 168 off their allotted 30 overs. Shivani Vignes was the star turn, hitting 55. 'Keeper-batter Meg Lyons helped her out, finishing on 53no as the Streatham innings drew to a close.
For the Ts, the wickets were spread around nicely. Aditi Sahoo led the way with an impressive 2-20 off 6. Betty Cassidy (1-24) also bowled tidily, whilst both Janet Hopper - replete with impressive green hair - and Eleanor Doherty snuffled wickets, too. Good stuff.
KMF sets the tone with the bat, Sahoo follows that lead
Given that batting has not always been the Ts' strongest suit this season, they knew that a good start was needed if they were going to get anywhere near 168.
Eleanor Doherty (5) went early, but that simply allowed Katie Martin-Fagg (KMF) and Aditi Sahoo to knuckle down and set to the task. They put on 124 as Twickenham moved very much into the driving seat.
KMF was eventually dismissed, Emily Patterson bowling her for 53, but that simply allowed Hannah Munday to join in the fun. Sahoo (62) and Munday (16no) at the end did much of the remaining legwork, although it was Betty Cassidy who was ultimately there with Munday when the total was reached.
The win is the second of the Ts' league campaign. Will they manage to make it three against Wimbledon on 28 July? Maybe, although the Dons currently sit top of the pile. Weird game though, cricket, anything's possible....
