Ts win MDL contest by a colossal 237 runs

The Twickenham CC U21s came out to party on Sunday 14 July. They beat Kensington & Chelsea by an eye-watering 237 runs on the Green in the Middlesex Development League (MDL). See here for the card.

Aarush Jain catches the eye
The Ts won the toss and had a bat. Over 500 runs had been scored on the Green the day before so it made sense to make hay when the sun shone.

40 overs later and the Ts were ending their innings with a more than decent 285 on the board. And, the batting had been a genuine team effort. One of the senior players, Nikhil Nomula, got things off to a blistering start with a 27 ball 50, and although no one else quite kept that tempo up the runs certainly kept on coming.

Sean Daly hit a run-a-ball 17 alongside Nomular, whilst Imran Niazai (29 off 36) came in at four and batted nicely. Aarush Jain also caught the eye; Jain is one of the Ts' decent U15 cohort, and he hit a very impressive 46 (off 60 balls) to jet-propel the Ts to their imposing total.

Hunt, Fowler and Johnston run riot with the ball
In reply the Ts' bowlers got to work very quickly, Kensington & Chelsea finding themselves 9-4 before things had really got started.

Max Hunt was very much at the centre of that. The young speedster ended up with 3-5 off five overs. Quite the opening spell!

Woody Fowler also stepped up to the plate. He's got plenty of years of MDL cricket left ahead of him, and claiming 3-8 when you're an U15 is mightily impressive. Hamish Johnston also joined in the fun, and the young leggy - another with at least three years of MDL cricket still on the horizon - ended with 3-18. A decent doo.

For the visitors, well, probably one to write off and forget about. Ashan Rajasinghe got into double figures, but no one else did. Kensington & Chelsea closed a long way short.

That's officially that the 2024 MDL group stages, and the Ts can be pleased with their second placed finish (see here for the table). Hampton Hill were deserved winners, but the Ts look more than well placed to run them close in future years.
