Clothing and Equipment for Training Sessions and Matches
Clothing
At training sessions Juniors are not required to wear 'full whites'. Juniors can wear training sportswear such as tracksuit trousers, polo shirt or T-shirt and sweatshirt/hoodie. It's also advised that Juniors wear Sports trainers rather than fashion/skate/converse trainers.
For those selected for matches 'whites' will need to be worn. Please can Junior Players not wear Spiked cricket shoes for matches (unless advised to by your Team Manager) as the vast majority of our Juniors matches are played on plastic/artificial wickets on which spiked shoes cannot be used.
Twickenham Cricket Club branded training clothing and playing clothing can be bought from our Woodstock TCC Kit Shop - https://woodstockcricket.co.uk/shop/Twickenham-CC-c125345792
Equipment
At training sessions for U9s to U17s we practice 'Incrediball' and hard ball cricket and therefore Juniors will need some equipment to be able to take part in the sessions.
Ideally Juniors in age groups u10 and above would be in possession of:
An Abdominal Guard (more commonly known as a Box*)
Wooden Bat
Leg Guards (usually called Pads)
Cricket Helmet
Batting Gloves - there are left and right handed versions
U9s
We tend to use an 'Incrediball', which is harder than the soft orange ball we use at All Stars cricket but not as firm as a hard cricket ball. We can also use these 'Incrediballs' for catching and fielding which gives the younger players a step up without the potential pressure of playing with a hard ball.
For u9s, as players use an incrediball for matches there is no need leg-guards (pads) or a helmet. We do recommend a wooden bat, batting gloves and a box.
* To wear a Box correctly, cricket underwear is available that includes a pouch to place the Box within - an example can be found here - https://www.morrant.com/cricket_clothing/kookaburra_cricket_jock_short__junior/103585_p.html
Ideally, and especially if your child is keen to continue attending cricket coaching, each Juniors would have their own Bat, Helmet, Pads and Gloves. For hygiene reasons, however, we cannot supply Abdominal Guards and it is essential that each boy Junior has their own. We understand that it can get a little expensive to kit out your child, and we will help out with the kit we do have, but with Juniors having their own kit we will be able to run the coaching sessions more effectively with each child seeing more activity per session.
If you do need a suggestion of where you can get cricket equipment, Teddington Sports are a friendly and professional cricket, hockey and rugby supplies store located on Broad Street in Teddington. The owner (David) is a cricket player himself and, in my experience, is happy to let the Juniors try out any kit to make sure that they get a good fit. He offers any Twickenham affiliated Juniors and players a 10% discount. Teddington Sports Ltd, 49 Broad Street, Teddington, TW11 8QZ E: info@teddingtonsports.co.uk T: 020 3475 2025
